The Role
You ship production systems that work under pressure. You don't wait to be told what to build—you identify problems, propose solutions, and execute. When something breaks at 2 AM, you're already looking at the logs.
This role is about code, speed, and reliability. No hand-holding. No busy work.
What You'll Do
- Build backend services and APIs that process real-time data under strict latency constraints
- Own your systems end-to-end: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and incident response
- Write code that other engineers trust—clean, tested, and battle-hardened
- Debug hard problems: race conditions, memory leaks, cascading failures
- Make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, quality, and complexity—and document why
- Improve system reliability: reduce error rates, improve observability, eliminate single points of failure
- Participate in on-call rotations and treat production health as your responsibility
What You Bring
- Production experience: you've built and operated systems that real users depend on
- Deep technical skills: you understand how databases, queues, caches, and networks actually work—not just how to use them
- Strong in at least two languages and backend stack (Node.js, Python, Go, or similar)—and willing to learn others
- Cloud-native fluency: you can design, deploy, and debug systems on AWS/GCP/Azure without hand-holding
- Operational mindset: you think about failure modes, alerting, and recovery before you ship
- AI-native development: you write 90% of your code using AI—but you own every line that ships
- Bias to action: you ship, learn, and iterate—perfectionism doesn't block progress
